Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is delighted to announce its public rescue day in September (01/09), which will be the first of its kind in the UK.
Hosted at Hicks Gate fire station in Keynsham and in partnership with the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO), the event will showcase the best the UK has to offer in heavy rescue.
Teams from all over the country will participate in rescue challenges focusing on road traffic collision (RTC) and trauma care/first aid.
There will also be a joint training exercise involving urban search and rescue (USAR).
The event will be open to the public for the first time and people will be able to see up close what AF&RS does on a daily basis, learn about road safety information and find out about potential recruitment opportunities within the service.
Lee Rogers, Watch Manager for AF&RS, said: “We are thrilled to be hosting this prestigious event and showing exactly what we do on a day to day basis.
“Road traffic collisions are a big part of what we respond to and being able to deal with these effectively and efficiently is crucial.
“Events like this can be a real eye-opener to people who don’t fully consider dangers on the road and how quickly a distraction can turn fatal. It only takes a second for something to go wrong.”
Dan Quin, United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Director for Education and Development, added: “This event is very unique, with a particular focus on heavy rescue, and is the first and only of its kind in the UK which provides a dedicated opportunity to learn and develop those skills.
“Heavy rescue is a very particular skill set and these scenarios will not only allow those involved to develop their skills, but also to showcase the amazing and technical work rescue teams do in often tricky and demanding situations.”
The event is completely free and there are two time slots available:
- 10:00 - 12:00
- 13:00 - 15:00
