Fire crews from Southmead and Patchway fire stations were alerted by neighbours who heard a smoke alarm sounding and could smell smoke. Once on scene firefighters in breathing apparatus immediately forced entry through the front door of the house and began a search for anyone who may still be inside.

During the search a semi-conscious man in his 80s was found by crews and was quickly moved to safety. He was provided with emergency medical care by firefighters who treated him for burns to to his legs and provided oxygen. He was then taken to hospital by ambulanace.

The fire was quickly extinguished by crews who also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the property.
