Crews called to Bedminster fire

Hartcliffe Way, Bedminster

Firefighters have tackled a fire involving a large quantity of polystyrene at Hartcliffe Way in Bristol.

Crews from Bedminster, Temple, Kingswood, Southmead, Nailsea, Pill and Portishead were alerted after more than 30 emergency calls were received from members of the public.

More than 30 firefighters from seven fire engines, a turntable ladder and command vehicles tackled the fire at the height of the incident. The fire is thought to have started accidentally before spreading into around 50 cubic metres of polystrene, creating a plume of thick black smoke. The fire also affected one end of an industrial unit and crews used jets and foam to bring the fire under control.
