Firefighters were called out to a fire involving a ground floor flat at a three storey building.
Three fire engines from Avonmouth, Southmead and Pill were alerted after a number of calls were received from members of the public reporting the incident. Once at the scene crews found smoke coming from the ground floor property and due to concerns there may be people still inside they immediately made entry.
Six firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the fire using high pressure hose reels and a main jet. They carried out a full search of the flat which was found to be empty.
The fire was contained to a bedroom, although smoke and heat damage was caused throughout the flat. Crews also made entry to a number of neighbouring properties where smoke may have spread to in order to check on the welfare of residents. No one was injured in the incident.
The fire is thought to have been started deliberately and the police will carry out an investigation.
