Man rescued from property by local builders

Elvard Road, Bishopsworth

Builders working on a nearby property rescued a resident from his flat when a fire started in the lounge on the ground floor and he couldn’t get out.

The gentleman, in his 30s tried to escape through the bathroom window but wasn’t able to get out. Two builders working on a property across the road noticed this and helped to pull him through the window to safety.

Firefighters from Bedminster and Temple fire stations were called to the incident and used one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire.

The resident of the property suffered smoke inhalation but was not conveyed to hospital.

The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.
