Fire crews were called to four deliberate rubbish fires in a 16 minute period during the early hours of the morning in Horfield.
A fire engine from Southmead Fire Station attended the first blaze in a wheelie bin at 03.14 on Dudley Grove. Just six minutes later, at 03.21 a call was received reporting a second fire in a wheelie bin on nearby Keys Avenue, which a second engine from Patchway Fire Station was sent to.
At 03.26 the Southmead crew was in action again at Keats Court where a third fire had started in a dustbin. After quickly extinguishing that blaze the firefighters then moved on to Keys Avenue to deal with a fourth fire in a wheelie bin at 03.30.
All four fires were contained to the bins where they broke out and were believed to have been started deliberately. All were extinguished using hose reels.
Anyone with information on any of the fires is urged to contact Avon and Somerset Police on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Although all four fires were of a minor nature, any blaze can put property and lives at risk. The four fires also occupied two fire engines which would have been unable to respond to a more serious incident in the area. Arson can carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.
