Monkton Avenue, Weston-super-Mare
A fire that started in the kitchen of a flat was extinguished by firefighters.
Three fire engines from Weston-super-Mare were called to the eight storey block of flats following reports of a fire in a flat on the fourth floor.
As crews did not get a response from the flat a forced entry was made. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a jet to tackle a fire involving the cooker. A search found the flat to be empty and it’s thought the fire started accidentally after food was left on a hob.
The fire caused damage to the kitchen area as well as smoke damage in the flat.
More than 50% of all accidental house fires attended by Avon Fire & Rescue Service start in the kitchen, often as a result of cooking left unattended. You can find more about kitchen fire safety by clicking here.
