Firefighters were called to a residential property after a mixture of cleaning chemicals led to a male suffering breathing difficulties and chest pains.
Three crews from Weston-super-Mare and two from Patchway fire station attended the incident, discovering chemicals had been mixed to unblock a toilet.
Four firefighters in breathing apparatus used one stirrup pump to remove the blockage and release the chemicals from the property.
They then ensured the drains were running smoothly.
The male, in his 20s, received oxygen therapy and first aid at the scene from firefighters.
He was also checked over by the ambulance service but was discharged at the scene.
