People living in the North Somerset area are being invited to find out about life at Winscombe Fire Station.
An open day is being held on Saturday 28 June from 10.00hrs to 16.00hrs, as part of the Winscombe Festival.
As well as the local fire engine and equipment, members of the public will be able to see up close the Turntable Ladder from Weston-super-Mare Fire Station and the Animal and Water Rescue Unit from Bath Fire Station.
Retained Duty System (RDS), or on call, firefighters who are based at Winscombe Fire Station will be carrying out road traffic collision and cooking safety demonstrations.
Winscombe Station Manager, Jon Brown, said: “We would like to invite the community in to the fire station to find out more about what we do.
“There is always a great deal of interest in the fire and rescue service and we know that people love to see the appliances and equipment we have.
“We are looking to recruit more on-call firefighters from the local community, so this will be a great opportunity for people to find out more.
“We will also use the opportunity to chat to people about fire safety and smoke alarms in their home. Smoke alarms activate at the first sign of fire and can give occupants a chance to escape especially at night, but only if they are working.”
