We have a number of vacancies for trainee Fire Safety Inspecting Officers within our Risk Reduction Technical Fire Safety Team. This role will be based initially at Patchway Fire Station although you will work from a number of locations across the area.
The role of the Fire Safety Officer is to contribute to community safety through the supervision and support of delivery services provided by the Technical Fire Safety team. This is actioned through inspecting premises to ensure compliance with set safety standards under the Regulatory Reform ‘Fire Safety’ Order 2005.
The successful applicant will be setting standards of fire safety in public and commercial premises through the assessment of risks and legal fire safety requirements at existing or proposed premises or complexes through inspections, planning reviews or consultations. This will also include monitoring the implementation of requirements and re-inspection where necessary and conducting regular Fire Safety Audits. Fire Safety Officers will be required to advise on the fire safety standards which are appropriate to the risk, in accordance with relevant codes and legal requirement. In order to ensure that communities remain safer, the role will also include informing and educating the community to improve awareness of safety matters.
It is desirable that applicants have a fire safety background or can demonstrate evidence of working within the fire industry or a relevant field such as Health and safety.Successful candidates will be expected to work on their own and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders, including the local community.Working knowledge of MS office applications, including word, Excel and outlook is also essential.
You will be expected to undertake and pass all elements of the Level 4 Diploma (Fire Safety Inspector). This will be done through on the job training and attendance at appropriate training courses, which will be funded by Avon Fire & Rescue Service. The role is temporary upon appointment subject to you successfully gaining the qualification and will then be made permanent. Once qualified the successful candidate may relocated to one of the other Fire Safety Offices within the Avon Area for which relocation expenses may be applicable.
