Head of Transport

Based at: Nova Way Technical Centre (Avonmouth)
Contract:  permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday)
Salary:  £43,662 - £47,521 (starting salary subject to experience)

Avon Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting for a Head of Transport to provide strategic leadership and technical expertise within the Fleet Department and wider organisation.  This department provide a critical role within the Service ensuring vehicles, appliances and operational equipment are procured, serviced, repaired and maintained to the required standards. 

The role requires proven leadership skills and the ability to support a culture of excellence, continuous improvement and customer service.  You will lead the team and ensure appropriate systems and processes are introduced and embedded to deliver effective service delivery through robust performance, data and financial management.  You will have a good awareness of appropriate legislation and risk assessments and ensure robust records are maintained to evidence compliance.  You must have experience of preparing technical specifications for vehicles and the ability to design or specify transport related engineering solutions to meet operational requirements. 

Youwill be the subject matter expert within the Service and involved in providing technical advice and recommendations to the Senior Leadership Board and other stakeholders.  This is a broad and interesting role working alongside Senior Leaders across the Service.  You will have significant influence and the ability to drive forward change, innovation and improvements. 

You should have a sound engineering background, ideally with an appropriate degree level qualification.  You should be a member of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers and be able to demonstrate continual professional development.  A Certificate of professional Competence in International Road Haulage would be an advantage.  You will require proven leadership, project, performance and financial management experience gained within a Fleet/Transport department.
