From 01:34 on Thursday, 5 September, our Fire Control received multiple 999 calls regarding reports of a fire at an industrial unit on Short Way, Thornbury.

Crews from Avonmouth, Thornbury, Patchway, Southmead, Temple, Pill, Nailsea, Chew Magna, Kingswood, Yate and Portishead were mobilised to the scene.

On arrival, firefighters found a fire involving eight HGV lorries and used a turntable ladder, along with a drone, to observe the scene, as well as using the turntable ladder as a water tower. 45mm jets and hose reel jets were also used to extinguish the blaze.

24 firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety during the incident.

A full evacuation took place, and all persons were accounted for. There were fortunately no casualties.

Crews remained on the scene throughout the day to check for any remaining hotspots and dampen down. They have now left the scene and no further inspections are required.

The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition.
