We are recruiting a Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive

Avon Fire Authority have launched the official process to find Avon Fire & Rescue Services’ (AF&RS) new Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive who will lead the organisation to achieve excellence in the delivery of its services, from responding to emergency incidents, to delivering an impressive range of preventative initiatives.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team across a network of fire stations, community safety centres, and thriving workplaces, committed to keeping local communities safe through innovative service delivery and continuous improvement. AF&RS strives for excellence in emergency response and proactive safety initiatives, making this a pivotal leadership role within the organisation and the community.

“We are searching for an outstanding leader who will bring passion, vision, and innovation to the role, guiding Avon Fire & Rescue Service through the evolving challenges facing fire and rescue services in the UK,” said Chair of Avon Fire Authority, Ben Nutland.

“The ideal candidate will have demonstrated leadership experience, a dedication to public safety, and a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality—both within the organisation and in the community.”

While an understanding of fire and rescue services and related public safety challenges would be advantageous, AF&RS encourages applications from leaders with comparable experience in managing large teams and budgets in similarly vital public safety or crisis management sectors. AF&RS particularly welcomes applications from diverse backgrounds and those from groups traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles, reinforcing its commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
