Avon Fire Authority (AFA) has designated Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jon Day into the post substantively at Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS).
The Chair of the Fire Authority, Cllr Terry Walker, said: “Jon is exceptionally well placed with his experience, knowledge and leadership abilities, to work alongside the Chief to steer the organisation through the very difficult times we face.”
Chief Fire Officer Kevin Pearson said: “I am delighted that Jon’s position has been made permanent.
“During his short term as Acting Deputy Fire Chief, he has achieved a significant amount of positive organisational change.
“I look forward to him being able to build on the firm foundations he has laid, and to work alongside him to continue to improve our organisation during this particularly challenging period for the service.”
Bristol-born Jon joined AF&RS in 1983 as a firefighter at Avonmouth.
During his career he has worked at most of the service’s Wholetime stations as Crew, Watch and Station Manager, as well as fulfilling a number of specialist posts across the service.
As Director of Operations Response he is responsible for ensuring the necessary support is available to provide effective and efficient delivery of services.
Jon is married with two children and lives in Bath.
