Monkton Combe School, Shaft Road, Monkton Combe, Bath
A fire which started in the common room area of a private school on the edge of Bath was extinguished by firefighters.
On arrival crews entered the premises which was being rented out by a group of approximately ten people. They had self-evacuated when the fire alarms had activated.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels and a 45mm jet to extinguish the fire. They then cleared smoke from the area using a positive pressure ventilation fan.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after candles were placed too close to curtains.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when using candles. Never leave them unattended, always fully extinguish them after use and never place them close to curtains or furnishings.
