The Mead, Clutton
Two dogs and two budgerigars have died in a house fire.
When crews arrived at the incident smoke was coming from one of the windows so two firefighters in breathing apparatus carried out a search of the premises.
Sadly they discovered the pets during the search.
Using a high pressure hose reel they extinguished the fire and cleared the smoke from the premises with a positive pressure ventilation fan.
Fortunately, the occupants had not been home at the time of the fire and a neighbour had alerted them after hearing the smoke alarms activating.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after the cooker hob was left on and nearby items caught fire.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when using electrical items. Always switch them off after use and never leave them on unattended.
