Newbridge Hill, Newbridge, Bath
Firefighters were called to a fire in the Newbridge area of Bath which was affecting the porch of a property.
When crews arrived they found the occupant, a man in his 70s, already out of the house. He was checked over by ambulance crews and found to be unharmed.
Crews dealt with the fire, which was confined to the porch, using a high pressure hose reel and a 45mm jet.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after a fault with a portable heater containing a butane cylinder.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people who use portable heaters during the winter months to ensure they are well maintained. Never place them close to furnishings and curtains and always switch them off after use.
