Woman rescued from Bath Abbey bell tower

Bath Abbey, Orange Grove, Bath

Firefighters have rescued an injured woman from the bell tower at Bath Abbey.

Crews were called by the ambulance service which was treating the lady after she injured her leg. As access to the bell tower was up a narrow staircase crews from Bath Fire Station were called in to help move the injured lady, who was aged in her 50s, from the church.

Firefighters from Bath Fire Station placed the woman into a flexible rescue stretcher before carrying her to safety – a journey down more than 120 steps and across two sections of roof at the abbey.

Once she was brought safely to ground level she was taken to hospital for further treatment.
