Crews tackle fire at Radstock scrapyard

More than 30 calls were received by the Service’s Control Room after a fire broke out at the scrap vehicle yard.

The fire involved more than 100 scrap vehicles which were well alight when crews arrived.

Firefighters used water jets and hose reels to tackle the fire.  A crane was used to remove some the vehicles one-by-one to be extinguished.

Five fire engines and more than 30 firefighters from Radstock, Paulton, Bath, Kinsgwood and Hicks Gate tackled the fire.

Fire crews remained on scene overnight until the fire was full extingusihed on Saturday afternoon.

One man in his 40s was taken to hospital as a precation after inhaling smoke.

The fire is believed to have started accidentally.
