Crews mobilised to reports of bin room fire

Northampton Street, Lansdown

Crews from Bath, Hicks Gate and Kingswood fire stations were mobilised to reports of a fire in a bin room.

On arrival, firefighters found a fire in the stairwell and used 10 breathing apparatus for safety and two high pressure hose reels and two 45mm jets to extinguish the fire.

Initial advice to residents from Control was to seal doors and move to the window in their flats. Crews later  conducted a controlled evacuation of the building following smoke logging and multiple calls to Control.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus lead 25 people from the property, five of which were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but none were conveyed to hospital

A local church was opened on Julian Road for those evacuated to shelter and two residents were provided with alternative accommodation.

Police, Ambulance, Local Authority, Housing Association and the Red Cross Fire Support Unit were also in attendance and the building was left in the hands of police.

The cause is thought to be deliberate.
