Old Quarry Road, Shirehampton, Bristol
A man had a lucky escape after he was alerted to a fire in his home when his smoke detector activated.
The 82 year-old was downstairs at the property when the blaze broke out but was able to get out safely and dial 999 when he heard the alarm.
When crews arrived on the scene they could see smoke coming from the upstairs of the house. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises and tackled the fire using two high pressure hose reels and one 45mm jet.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after a fault with an electrical heater.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to ensure they have electrical appliances checked regularly and turn off any appliances when not in use to prevent fire. Fortunately in this case the smoke alarm activated giving the occupant time to escape unhurt.
