Smoke alarms alert residents to severe fire

Coronation Road, Southville

Following multiple calls from the public, crews from Temple, Bedminster, Southmead, Avonmouth, Kingswood and Portishead fire stations were called to a fully developed, first and second-floor fire in a three storey residential property.

The occupants of the property were alerted to the fire by smoke alarms, which allowed them and around 20 nearby residents to evacuate to safety.

Around 40 firefighters and officers were present at the scene, and 10 firefighters in breathing apparatus used three high-pressure hose reels, two 45mm jets and a turntable ladder to extinguish the fire.

Crews remained on scene to damp down and used thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots.

Following fire investigation, the cause is thought to be accidental.
