Clothing hanging on a door above a heater has sparked a fire in a student bedsit.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using a high pressure hose reel. They then used a Thermal Imaging Camera to check for hotspots to ensure the fire was fully out and a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan was used to clear the smoke.
It’s thought the fire started after the vents to the heater were blocked by the clothing hanging above.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when using heaters, particularly during the cold weather. Never block vents to electrical heaters and never leave heaters switched on unattended.
