Firefighters clear fuel from RTC

M4, Junction 18 - 19.


Crews from Temple and Kingswood were mobilised at 03:46 to reports of a road traffic collision on the M4 Eastbound between junctions 18 and 19.

On arrival, crews found a collision involved a heavy goods vehicle affecting both westbound and eastbound lanes on the carriageway.

Firefighters worked to control approximately 175 litres of diesel that had ruptured from the fuel tank onto the roadway. Crews used slick off, two high pressure hose reels, small gear and three environmental packs to clear spilt fuel from the road.

The M4, between junctions 18 and 19 is likely to remain closed until at least 12:00 today (3 Dec). Firefighters left the scene in the hands of National Highways at 05:52, we encourage those travelling in the area today to follow National Highways for updates on road closures.
