Fire hits public house

Coopers Arms, Ashton Road, Bedminster, Bristol

Two pumps from Bedminster and one from Temple were initially called to this incident where a fire was taking hold in the first floor of a public house.

On arriving at the scene the Officer in Charge notified Fire Control to make the attendance up to four pumps – with the fourth coming from Temple Fire Station.

Crews were faced with a female on a flat roof of a one storey extension and flames coming through the windows at the front of the property.

A ladder was put up to the roof to rescue the women, while two hose reels were immediately set up to tackle the fire. Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus to enter the property and carry out a full search.

Thankfully all customers had been able to evacuate the building when the fire was discovered.

The female who was rescued, believed to be the landlady, and landlord, who was outside when crews arrived, both suffered slight smoke inhalation, but did not need to go to hospital.

The fire is currently under investigation.
