In an emergency always call 999
Bath Fire Station is opening its doors to the community to raise awareness of the role the Fire Service play in Water Rescue.
The station will be open to the public on Saturday 12th April from 11am to 3pm to host a fun, family friendly, water focussed event which is free to all.
In 2024, Avon Fire & Rescue Service attended 100 rescues or evacuations from water, highlighting the importance of Water Safety education. As warmer months approach, it is crucial for people of all ages to understand how to keep themselves safe in and around open water.
What to Expect:
“This event is a great opportunity for the community to learn how to stay safe around water and leave the station with practical knowledge that could save lives in water related emergencies. It is vital that young people in our community are water aware and understand the risk of the many hidden dangers in our inland waterways”.
Jacq Hardwick, Water Safety Lead CYP, Avon Fire & Rescue Service
The Open Day supports the National Fire Chiefs Council’s ‘Be Water Aware Week’ (April 28th – May 4th), which focuses on preventing accidental drownings. The campaign emphasises the dangers of, cold water shock, swimming in unfamiliar areas, and the risks associated with jumping and tombstoning into water without knowing what lies beneath.
We hope to welcome people of all ages onto Bath Fire Station, Cleveland Bridge, Bath, BA2 6PU to have fun learning about Water Safety.
