Paulton to host open evening for prospective firefighters in the community

Paulton crews will open the fire station doors to members of the community for an open evening on Thursday 20 June.

The event comes as the Service looks to recruit more on-call firefighters to support their work in the community.

Paulton Fire Station opening evening
19:00 – 20:30

Come down to your local fire station and meet the team. We are recruiting for on-call firefighters – so now is your chance to get involved!

Crews will be on hand to talk to you about the role, and how you can get your career with us started.

An on-call firefighter is someone who responds to a range of incidents, ranging from emergency calls, working at open days, carrying out work with their local communities and acting as an ambassador for AF&RS.

On-call firefighters come from all walks of life, including homemakers, shopkeepers, builders, farmers, office workers and directors of companies, together with people who are not currently employed.

Previous experience is not required as full training is provided throughout your career with AF&RS.

An on-call firefighter could be called out two or three times a week or more, for a few hours at a time. The on-call hours are based around people’s availability and other commitments.

To be an on-call firefighter you must:

  • Have a strong desire to support the local community
  • Be enthusiastic about working as part of a team
  • Have a good level of fitness and strength
  • Live or/and work within five minutes of an on-call fire station
