Staff from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) went along to Bristol Harbour Festival on Sunday 21 July and spent time engaging with visitors and providing an exciting water safety demonstration.
Crews from Bedminster white watch and staff from our Children and Young People (CYP) team spent the day at Cascade Steps, and got to engage with a range of people from young people to tourists and more.
Bedminster crews also provided an exciting demonstration on the water, showcasing the Service’s response to a water incident.
Water Safety Lead Jacq Hardwick said: “The Harbour Festival was fantastic and we engaged with so many young people.
“It was very surprising that many of the adults we spoke to had no idea that the Service attend water incidents and rescue people from the water.
“Please always remember that if you see someone in difficulty in the water, call 999. If you’re inland, ask for the fire service, and if you’re at the coast, ask for the Coastguard. Never enter the water after somebody.”
