Firefighters have rescued two dogs during a house fire.
When crews arrived they could see smoke coming from the property so two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry and began a search of the premises.
They found a fire in the kitchen and using a high pressure hose reel brought the blaze under control. During the search they found two dogs – a Labrador and a Boxer – and assisted them to safety. They were slightly distressed by the ordeal but otherwise unhurt.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after a tea towel was left on a hob and the hob was left on. The occupant had left the property and returned to find the fire.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when cooking and always make sure all electrical appliances are turned off after use. Tea towels and oven gloves should be kept well away from hot appliances.
The kitchen was left badly damaged by the fire, with smoke damage to the rest of the house.
