Crews rescue man from house fire

West Street, Weston-super-Mare

One man was rescued after a fire broke out inside his home in Weston-super-Mare.

Two fire engines from Weston-super-Mare Fire Station were called to the three storey building following reports of a fire in a flat, with the occupant still inside.

Once on scene four firefighters in breathing apparatus gained entry to the second floor property and began an immediate search. During the search of the smoke filled home they found a middle-aged man unconscious in a bedroom.

Fire crews rescued the man, carrying him to safety down the stairs before passing him over to the care of the ambulance service. He later regained consciousness before being taken to hospital.

Crews used a high pressure hose reel to deal with the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke logging from the flat.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
