Weston-super-Mare fire station will be throwing its doors open to the public and promises something for everyone this Sunday (02/12).
From 10.30am to 4pm there will be fun for all the family with a range of activities and demonstrations at the station on Milton Avenue.
Firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will be taking part in several demonstrations, including a road traffic collision, fire dogs, vertical line rescue, and turntable ladder displays.
They will also be on hand to show off some of the fire engines and rescue equipment, along with answering any questions around fire safety.
There will be several activities that visitors can try, such as hose running and games, showing what goes into being a firefighter.
To make the day even more festive, mince pies will be on offer and Santa may even stop by if he isn’t too busy.
Anna James, Blue Watch Manager at Weston-super-Mare fire station, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to connect with the community ahead of Christmas.
“It’s a festive time of year and we want to ensure that local residents are safe and secure over the winter period.
“By inviting the community to the station, we can show off some of our capabilities while also talking about home fire safety.
“And of course, Santa may join us to make it that little more festive.”
There will be limited parking on station for disabled only but there will be free return transport available from the Healthy Living Centre in Weston all day.
Also there on the day with games, information and demonstrations will be South Western Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, the RNLI, BARB Hovercraft and Weston Healthy Living.
For those wishing to get more involved with Weston-super-Mare as an On-Call firefighter, there will be the opportunity to talk about AF&RS’ ‘Yes You Can’ Campaign.
