How’s your parking?
Is parking a problem where you live? Even if it’s tempting to park wherever you find a space, take time to consider if you’re parking considerately. Taking time to squeeze past your car could cost a fire crew precious seconds whilst on the way to an incident, delaying their response.
Think Fire Engine
A good rule of thumb when parking is to think about whether or not a fire engine could get past your car. Remember:
- Fire engines are larger than cars and need more room to turn corners so please avoid parking too close to junctions.
- If you are parking opposite another vehicle, remember that a fire engine needs at least two car widths to fit through.
Parking according to the Highway Code
There are specific rules around parking in the Highway Code which give advice on:
- Where and when you can legally park
- Where and when you can legally wait in your vehicle
