Firefighters have been called to assist with a fuel tanker lorry which had begun leaking aviation fuel.
It’s thought a significant amount of aviation fuel was spilt into the roadway and entered a drain.
When crews arrived they requested the attendance of the Environment Agency, the Highways Agency and the Health and Safety Executive.
Firefighters worked with staff on the site to put a floating boom in place but there is no evidence at this stage to suggest any fuel has entered the water course. They were also able to isolate the leak.
Approximately 20 tonnes of sand was spread onto the roadway to clean up the excess fuel and absorb any vapours.
No one was hurt during the incident which has now been fully contained. However, the road is expected to remain closed for some time.
