Steel containers set on fire

a fire engine leaving a station on its way to an emergencyCrews spent more than three hours fighting a fire on the edge of a new-build development in Yate.

The alarm was raised just after 01.30hrs, and firefighters arrived to find three steel containers well alight.

Crews from Yate, Speedwell, Kingswood, Temple and Patchway attended, and a mobile command unit was set up.

A total of eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were involved in fighting the fire, with two 45mm jets being used.

Specialist cutting equipment including a heavy-duty angle grinder had to be used to cut open the containers.

Crews also used thermal imaging cameras.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
