As the England football team prepare to take on Italy in their first World Cup game this weekend, firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) are preparing for their own footballing challenge.
A charity six-a-side tournament is taking place at Hanham Athletic Football Club on Saturday 14 June from 10.00hrs.
Teams will play against each other to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support services and treatment to serving and retired fire service staff in times of need.
Organiser Krissy Foster, who works in the AF&RS Control room answering 999 calls, said: “This event should be really good fun for all the family. There’s always a good bit of competitive spirit at AF&RS so the football tournament should be worth watching.
“But if football is not your thing, then there will be plenty of other fun things to do. All the money raised will be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity. This is such a great cause which every member of the UK fire service, their families and dependents may benefit from due to injury, hardship or a range of issues.
“We hope people will come along, enjoy the fun and get into the football spirit ahead of the England versus Italy game later that evening.”
The family fun day will also include games, a bouncy castle, lucky dip and barbecue.
