M4 westbound junctions 18 to 19.
The M4 motorway has now reopened following a multiple vehicle road traffic collision.
When crews arrived on the scene they found a car transporter and three vehicles involved in the incident between junctions 18 and 19 westbound.
All those involved in the incident were already out of the vehicles.
However, crews remained on the scene assisting police and other agencies.
Four people have been taken to hospital, although at this stage the extent of their injuries is not known.
In an effort to help stranded motorists caught up in the incident Avon Fire & Rescue Service mobilised its Welfare Unit, which has toilets and drinking water on board, to the scene.
This was to provide facilities for anyone stuck in the traffic while the incident was ongoing.
